'Chuck the cheese' the attention game
The first stage in any dog training is to get the dog to pay attention to you so that they know what you are asking of them. If your dog is in the habit of checking in with you before they do something when you're out and about, it safeguards them from doing something potentially dangerous.
In this video, Tony Cruse from TC Dog Training
offers a simple exercise to teach impulse control and focus on their handler with the added benefit of some fun nosework.
The reward does not have to be cheese, of course, but whatever appeals to your dog.
