VMD: Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme
The internet is becoming a popular place for people to buy medicines for their pets but how can we ensure that the medicines we are buying online are safe and effective?
It is the job of The Veterinary Medicines Directorate
to ensure that veterinary medicines are safe and work properly for the animal and are safe for the users of medicines and the environment. In order to give animal owners more reassurance about buying medicines on the internet they have set up the Accredited Internet Retailers Scheme. Matthew Isted is the Quality and Communications Manager and introduces this topic on the video.
The scheme enables online retailers to seek accreditation from the VMD who will assess and accredit them if they are providing veterinary medicines in accordance with the Veterinary Medicines Regulations and the Scheme's criteria. Once accredited the company can display the VMD logo and registration number as evidence. Matthew explains how we can check that the logo is not being displayed fraudulently.
