Warning: This video contains various images of dogs receiving injections and being under general anaesthetic.
Reena Patel runs Medivet
in Pinner, London. In this video Reena talks about anaesthesia, about the different types of anaesthetic and their uses. For certain veterinary procedures, such as when undergoing an operation, putting a dog under anaesthetic is necessary because it is important that they remain completely still and pain free. The risks of giving a dog anaesthetic are very small, but it is still reassuring to learn about the safety checks that are carried out before and after administering anaesthesia, and the monitoring that goes on during an operation, to protect the patient.
Reena also tells us why certain pre-operation precautions, such as fasting, are necessary for the dog and about aftercare following an operation.
