How to get your dog's attention with the shoulder tap
Dogs cannot be expected to be constantly watchful for commands from their owner, they need their downtime, but if a dog is going to know what you want from him he does need to be paying attention to you. In a noisy environment, when he is distracted or when he has simply tuned you out, calling his name repeatedly might not be the best method to achieve this.
In this video, Brenda Aloff provides us with a useful alternative, the shoulder tap. She explains how to introduce it and how to reinforce it.
This technique can be used by tapping the hip as Brenda explains, or the shoulder as shown by Kev and Sandy.
