Dog toilet training: 'ring a bell' technique
Once your dog has mastered the art of appropriate toileting, it's handy if they can have some way to let you know when they want to go outside. Barking can mean any number of things and something, perhaps, not to be encouraged; scratching at the door might damage the door.
Sally Marchant, from Naturally Happy Dogs, has an ingenious solution: teach them to ring a bell to signal that they want to go outside. It doesn't damage anything, doesn't encourage barking and is a unique signal so that you know it only means one thing. In this video, she demonstrates step-by-step how to train this behaviour.
