Bloodhound Trials: Competitions
Leonarda Pogodzinski judges Bloodhound trials all over the world. In this video, she gives us an overview of the world of competitive trialling.
There are two main aspects to the way the dogs are tested: the length of the trail and how "cold" it is, i.e. how long ago the scent was laid down. The further up the level of competition, the longer and colder the trail tends to get. Leonarda tells us the specific times and distances for each level.
She explains the difference between a scenting hound, such as the Bloodhound, and a tracking hound, and she also explains how the sport safeguards livestock and game in areas where the Bloodhounds are working.
Finally, she outlines how the dogs are assessed and how we can get involved.
