Assistance dogs: ongoing training
Jack is an assistance dog, trained by Canine Partners. When he went to live with Philippa Sjoberg two years ago, he had already been trained to have a range of skills that might prove useful.
In this video, Philippa tells us about some of the ways Jack helps her but also about some of the training she has done with him to provide him with mental stimulation and interest. Some of these add to his repertoire of helpful things to do around the home and some are more typical dog activities such as scent work and agility.
As Philippa says, these assistance dogs have been brought up to enjoy learning so owners are committed to providing new challenges as well as to giving 'free' time to enjoy simply being dogs.
